Dishwash systems for schools

Free school meals: Winterhalter offers advice on making warewashing easy

Winterhalter's energy saving PT passthrough warewasherIn a school, the main objective in terms of warewashing is to have clean, hygienic plates, glasses, cutlery and utensils.  Paul Crowley, marketing manager of Winterhalter, warns that there’s more to planning a school warewash system than picking the machine – such as working out how to get the dirties to the wash area, then get them back to the service area when they’re clean.  It’s about buying a system, not just a box.

“Whether the school is using integral trays or crockery, plastic or china, the system needs to be fully integrated,” he says, “from the machines and racks to the chemicals and after sales support.”

Winterhalter suggests that some of the factors to consider include:

The need to wash big volumes in a short time

  • Energy- and water-saving features that will help lower running costs
  • How will the warewasher impact on the extraction / ventilation system?  These days there is the option of virtually steam-free models that require little or no extraction
  • The right choice of detergents and rinse aids – for example, specialist formulae can help plastics dry more quickly
  • Easy, user-friendly operation: this will save staff time and help avoid staff error.  Many machines these days have simple graphic displays with self-diagnostics

Some schools are still using a steriliser sink.  “A dishwash system will save energy and water, it will give you better, more hygienic results, it will enhance staff safety and it will get the dishes clean more quickly,” says Paul.  “Despite all that, it will also cost less than a steriliser sink to run.”

Winterhalter provides a total solution for warewashing, from pre-sales advice to after-sales service, training and maintenance.  Alongside its market-leading dish and glasswashers, the company’s range includes utensil washers, advanced water treatment machines, cleaning chemicals and detergents.  For further details, call Winterhalter on 01908 359000, seewww.winterhalter.com/uk-en/, or www.winterhalter-scout.biz or email info@winterhalter.co.uk.
