Barista Tech launches market’s first grind-by-weight espresso grinders
Coffee equipment specialist Barista Tech has launched the market’s first ever grind-by-weight (GbW) coffee bean grinders. Manufactured by Mahlkonig, the German grinder company, the new grinders ensure absolutely consistent quality, every time.
Conventional grinders grind by timer or by volume. However, these methods are subject to fluctuations, for example depending on the condition of the beans or the size of the grind. Grinding by weight delivers exactly the grams you set – so users know the coffee will be perfect, and customers get absolutely consistent drink quality.
The first grind-by-weight model is the Mahlkonig E65S GbW. Featuring a compact, attractive design and a 1,200g hopper, its GbW technology delivers real time, scale-controlled dosing, monitoring the weight throughout the entire grinding process. Its output of up to 5g per second makes it ideal busy coffee shops.
The consistency of the coffee grind is further enhanced by the machine’s Disc Distance Detection (DDD) function. This allows for precise adjustment of the distance between the grinding discs or burrs, so the user can accurately select the fineness of the grind. At the same time, the machine’s active cooling system maintains a low grinding temperature to protect the coffee.
The E65S GbW is brilliantly practical: it grinds pleasantly quietly, and the high-resolution display make is easy to monitor operation. The adjustable, illuminated spout provides a clean and centred dispense. Meanwhile the machine’s integrated Portafilter Detection system makes life easier for the barista. This automatically recognises the portafilter, selects the corresponding grinding preset and starts the grinding process. As well as saving time, it prevents dosing mistakes.
