New servery at Dragon School uses Moffat counters to fit in with tight installation timetable

The Dragon was founded as the Oxford Preparatory School in 1877 by a group of university dons to educate their own children. It has evolved into a modern co-educational school for 850 children aged four to 13 based on two sites. The school provides a dynamic balance of imagination, originality and academic discipline while preparing pupils for the rigours of life in the 21st century.

Recently the Dragon had the opportunity to upgrade the servery at the Prep, based at its Bardwell Road site, which has a total of 640 day and boarding children. To make sure there was no disruption to pupils all the work had to undertaken in the Easter holidays. Factory First.com Ltd from High Wycombe designed, planned and project-managed the job and carried out all the work within the tight two and a half week timetable.

New Moffat servery counters formed the basis of the installation bringing functionality and flair to the finished area. All the existing countering was stripped out, the flooring replaced and the walls resurfaced to incorporate the school logo.

“The old servery counters had been in operation for over 15 years and they were in need of a refresh,” said Chris Palmer, catering manager at the Dragon. “The makeover was a great opportunity to give the servery area its own identity as well as a modern look. We worked closely with Factory First to get a bespoke solution that would work best for the School.”

Paul Nannery, managing director at Factory First says, “We chose Moffat counters for the job as they fitted our specifications, could easily be assembled into the required configuration and are finished with smart, hard wearing granite work tops and formica wood panelling fronts. We know we can trust Moffat to supply counters built to withstand the demands of school catering, to our exact specifications and most importantly we know they will deliver on time.”

With 300 breakfasts to serve, 1000 lunches and 300 evening meals the servery area is certainly a busy place. Pupils and staff are offered a choice of hot meals, jacket potatoes, salads and puddings every day. To cope with the numbers passing through at peak times two identical but separate servery areas were fitted.
