Diary date – 22 June: National KP Day “Helping caterers shine and customers dine!” Celebrate the role of kitchen porters and help raise £1,000 for the Springboard Charity On June 22 2015, the catering industry will be able to celebrate the people whose work makes kitchens tick across the UK: kitchen porters. The day is also an opportunity to raise up to £1,000 for Springboard, the charity that helps disadvantaged people find work in the catering industry.

Manor House Hotel’s dedicated, long-serving KP wins Winterhalter-sponsored award Steve Ball of the five star Manor House Hotel in the Cotswolds is not your average KP. For one thing, he’s been at the hotel for 35 years. He’s as likely to be found working in the kitchen garden, or ordering supplies, as he is in the kitchen – which he keeps spotlessly clean. Kinkead admits he’s unlikely to be candidate for Kitchen Porter of the Year Being a kitchen porter is one of the most physically demanding jobs in the hospitality market. Winterhalter has launched a competition to find the KP of the year and, as part of the promotional activity around the event, the company’s managing director, Stephen Kinkead, worked as a KP at Sat Bains’ restaurant in Nottingham.
