Green and Clean: Winterhalter’s Award-Winning UC Series

Winterhalter Undercounter Series Dishwashers awarded a prestigious Green Apple Award

Winterhalter’s UC Series has been awarded a Green Apple Award, which will be presented in the House of Commons on November 12th 2012. The Green Apple Environment Awards, organised by The Green Organisation, began in 1994 and have become established as the UK’s major recognition for environmental endeavour and sustainable development among companies, councils, communities and countries.

Winterhalter is at the forefront of resource efficiency and is committed to reducing energy, water and chemical usage.  The UC Series of undercounter dishwashers offers a variety of resource and cost saving features – for example, each washing program has an optional ‘Eco’ mode that minimises resource consumption while extending the washing cycle, saving up to 11% in running costs.  The UC Series is also part of Winterhalter’s IRT (Intelligent Resource Technology) project, aimed at reducing the consumption of water, power and chemicals in warewashing.

An optional ‘Energy’ model is available which saves energy and resources further. The Energy model’s compact, circulating air heat exchanger extracts the energy from the warm, humid water vapour inside the machine and uses it to heat the incoming cold fill. Reducing energy consumption by 0.1 kWh per cycle and improving the environment around the machine, as very little steam escapes when the machine’s hood is opened.

As a further economy measure the UC Energy machines have an ‘Eco’ wash program where a longer washing time enables water, energy and detergent to be saved while still producing the same outstanding results.

Winterhalter has taken resource-friendly warewashing a step further, with about 98% of the machine able to be recovered and recycled in useful materials, after its service life. The stainless steel, copper and sheet metal used in the machine is fully recyclable. The plastics can be used as shredder material. Electronics and elastomer parts can generally be recycled. Leaving about 2% by weight of the original warewasher that can’t be recycled.

“Winterhalter warewashers have already proved themselves to be the environment friendly choice, through their range of energy efficient technologies that reduce energy and water consumption, and now through their recyclability,” says Paul Crowley of Winterhalter. “Winterhalter is delighted to receive this Award in recognition of the UC machines’ green credentials.”

Winterhalter competed against more than 500 other nominations to win the award. Judges for the Green Apple Awards are drawn from the Environment Agency, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, the Chartered Institution for Wastes Management and other independent bodies.

The UC machines are available in four different sizes, small, medium, large and extra large, and four different configurations, one each for dishes, glasses and cutlery or utensils, plus the multi-purpose bistro version, which can wash glasses and dishes at the same time.  The glasswashers can process up to 48 racks per hour, with racks ranging in size from 400x400mm in the small model to 500x540mm in the extra large.

Winterhalter provides a total solution for warewashing, from pre-sales advice to after-sales service, training and maintenance.  Alongside its market-leading dish and glasswashers, the company’s range includes utensil washers, advanced water treatment machines, cleaning chemicals and detergents.  For further details, call Winterhalter on 01908 359000, see www.winterhalter.com/uk-en/, or www.winterhalter-scout.biz or email info@winterhalter.co.uk.
