Rational’s SelfCooking Center® takes the uncertainty out of grilling

Grilling steaks in the Rational SelfCooking Center Barbeques have become a summer catering standard. The public have fallen in love with barbequed food, and once the days start getting warmer the demand for burgers, steaks and sausages rockets alongside other meats and fish – in fact anything that can be thrown onto a barbeque. But barbequed food is not without its drawbacks.

A major problem is that to grill the food correctly it needs constant attention. It’s all too easy to ruin by over-cooking or risk food-poisoning issues by undercooking. But help is at hand in the form of the Rational SelfCooking Center. With a SelfCooking Center everything is cooked exactly as you want it – succulent, rare or well done, automatically, at the touch of a button. There’s no need to stand over the food and supervise the cooking.

The real trick with barbeque cooking is that if you want to add a traditional smoky flavour, simply cook in the SelfCooking Center then finish off on a traditional barbecue or flame grill for a couple of minutes just before serving and the customer will enjoy a real barbeque experience – except the food will be tastier. This is a method used by a well-known chain of restaurants specialising in marinated flame-grilled options.

What’s more the SelfCooking Center has a special grill grid that puts an authentic grill pattern onto the food as it is cooked. Simply place the raw (or even frozen) food on the GriddleGrid shelf, press a button to tell the unit what type of food is being grilled, the level of browning (from light to dark) and how well done you want it (rare to well done). That’s really all there is to it.

"Cooking food successfully on a traditional barbecue is a skilled and labour intensive job," points out Vic Brown, managing director of Rational UK. "When you use a SelfCooking Center you can be sure the food is cooked to perfection – it tastes and looks great and is cooked properly throughout. You can also cook lots of different dishes at the same time, in the same SelfCooking Center, with no danger of flavour cross-over as you might get on a traditional barbeque."

A single SelfCooking Center can cook up to 108 steaks or fish fillets, automatically, without overseeing or turning the food. The SelfCooking Center’s LevelControl technology looks after each shelf individually – which is why several different items can be cooked in one unit, at the same time. Steaks on shelf one, fish on shelf two, grilled vegetables on shelf three and so on. The airflow inside the unit ensures there is no flavour contamination between the shelves, and the SelfCooking Center alerts staff as each shelf’s food is ready to be taken out – so there’s no danger of over- or under-cooking, either.
