CNP Professional’s sports supplements and advice give Norwich City FC ‘the edge’

CNP fan Russell Martin (left) with Andrew Crofts at the Norwich City FC training ground “Nutrition is becoming an integral part of a footballer’s routine,” explains Mike Watts, Head of Sport and Exercise Science at Norwich City FC. “Our team trains hard and plays hard and that puts a lot of stress on the body. The importance of recovery is massive. Over the Christmas period alone there are four games in eight days so we need to do everything we can to boost fitness.”

CNP Professional, the Manchester-based sports supplement company, has linked up with Norwich City to become its nutrition partner, offering advice and high quality protein supplements to the team. CNP has wide experience of producing supplements to boost performance across a range of sports including boxing, MMA, rugby, athletics, cycling, skiing and sailing. The company is also involved with football teams in all divisions including the premier league.

A key focus for Norwich is protein supplements, where CNP has enormous expertise. Protein has been shown to aid in the re-building and protecting of muscles during and after strenuous exercise.

“CNP provides us with great support. If we’ve got any questions they are always at hand with help and advice, if we run out of anything they deliver the next day. Service-wise they are absolutely brilliant,” says Watts, who is also the NCFC’s Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Defender Russell Martin started using CNP supplements 18 months ago, since a visit by CNP’s head of nutrition, Kerry Kayes, to his old club Peterborough United FC. He has noticed an increase in strength, fitness and recovery times.

“I’ve been using them for about 18 months now,” he says. “They are better quality and more effective than others I’ve tried. They’re easy to digest which is especially important before and after games when the stomach is fragile. The night before matches I drink a Pro MR high protein shake, to prepare for the intense activity of a championship game.”

Martin also uses Pro Peptide to increase muscle mass. Pro Peptide is an advanced protein supplement containing a blend of bioactive ‘fast and slow’ proteins that provide both anabolic and anti-catabolic properties to help increase muscle power. It’s loaded with probiotics and prebiotics to promote an efficient digestive system and contains peptide bonded glutamine to aid muscle recovery.

“I gained 3kg when I started on Pro Peptide, but actually lost body fat and felt a lot stronger,” he explains.

For both home and away games Mike Watts makes sure the players have access to the ready measured bottles of CNP’s Pro Recover – a post exercise carbohydrate and protein shake. He makes them up in advance and keeps them on ice so they are cool and refreshing after the game.

“Since starting on Pro Recover I don’t get aches and pains after matches and training anymore. I feel fit and ready to go again in 24 hours,” says Martin.

“We take a massive box of Pro Recover to away games and I recommend them to all the players,” says Watts. “They’re easy to transport and so easy to use. Just add water and shake up. They taste good as well. They give players that edge in stamina and fitness that’s so important in today’s game.”
