Pendle Cyclists Get Protein Boost

CNP gives participants chance to try new range of sports supplements for cyclists, for free

Try Sky Pro Cycling's new energy gel for free at the Pendle Fest Pendle Cycle Fest, Pendle, 26 & 27 June 2010.

PLUS: sampling of CNP’s new caffeine-free energy gel.

As part of its sponsorship package for the Pendle Cycle Fest, CNP Professional is supplying all participants in the National Cyclo-Sportive (Sat 26 June) with its new range of sports nutrition supplements for cyclists, as used by the Sky Pro Cycling team. On the Sunday, when the pro riders compete in the National Elite Road Race Championship, CNP will be offering free samples from its stand.

CNP is official sports nutrition partner to the Sky Pro Cycling team. Amongst the supplements available to competitors (for free) is the new Pro Energy Max gel, developed by CNP in conjunction with Sky. "We’re very excited by the new gel," says Nigel Mitchell, Head of Nutrition at Team Sky. "We asked our athletes to specify what they wanted in a gel, then CNP worked with us to develop a formula that met the requirements. The critical issue was to get the boost and then maintain it, rather than have the follow-up ‘energy flat’ that can sometimes happen."

What makes this energy gel different is its formula, a targeted combination of caffeine for instant energy, guarana for slow-release energy, carbohydrates to maintain glucose levels, and electrolytes for rehydration. It also contains B vitamins that allow the body to convert the ingredients more easily, to deliver the energy boost to the athlete.

Along with CNP’s energy gels, drinks and bars, participants at Pendle will be able to try the company’s protein supplements, which are also used by Team Sky to enhance performance. The products on offer include Pro Flapjacks, Pro Peptide and the post-workout drink Pro Recover, which will be available at the race finish. CNP is also hoping to be able to offer samples of its brand new caffeine-free version of the Pro Energy Max gel.

The CNP range is available in the high street, through independent cycle shops. The single portion 45gm tear-open sachet of Pro Energy Max retails at £1.49. Check out the CNP website, www.cnpprofessional.co.uk, for more details.
