The Adrian Flux Wroughton Classic Car and Bike Show has announced a number of new attractions for the 2009 show, which is fast turning into one of the UK’s biggest ‘for all-the-family’ motor attractions.
Headline sponsor Adrian Flux Insurance Services and co-sponsor Classic Car Weekly magazine have been joined by Classic Bike magazine, as interest grows in the motorcycle section of the show.
"Bike enthusiasts have responded so well that I’ve had to set aside a new area of the old Wroughton Airfield concrete runway especially for their classic bikes," said the show’s organiser, Greg Dunningham.
A Karting Grand Prix is being organised for the weekend, in conjunction with the nearby Swindon Karting Centre, while Wilts Dubfest, a popular summer gathering of VW enthusiasts, has also announced plans to hold its 2009 event at the Wroughton show.
In addition, several more car clubs are expected to be there in strength, and it will be a great opportunity to see collections of rare vehicles such as the classic French Panhard et Levassor which are seldom seen in groups!
In a special ‘Early Bird’ offer designed to encourage whole families to pre-book, Greg Dunningham says that family tickets will be available at discount prices by using the special offer code ‘CLASSIC03’ in the advance booking section of the show website.
"Family attractions will be a key part of the weekend," says Greg Dunningham. "In addition to the extremely popular slot car racing we’ve got a pedal car race lined up, as well as a number of famous novelty vehicles from TV series and films, along with classic police vehicles and a delightful ‘little red bus’ giving rides to children throughout the weekend."
Dunningham expects the 2009 show to be the largest ever, set to break last year’s record of 25,000 visitors and over 2,600 classic vehicles. The show will feature a huge variety of motors – from veteran ‘old crocks’ to rare examples of legendary racing cars such Jaguars, and concours-quality cars, vans, motorbikes – even old caravans and the unique ‘Ner-a-Car’.
A number of competitions for Best Car in several categories will lead up to the Adrian Flux ‘Car of the Year’ award, with a variety of grand prizes and trophies including an award for the show’s most unusual vehicle.
"When we launched the Wroughton Classic in 2006 we were stunned at the enthusiastic response," said founder and organiser Greg Dunningham. "We never expected it to take off as fast as it did.
"Our advance bookings already suggest this is going be the biggest year yet. With our new family attractions we want it to be for everyone, not just enthusiasts. It should be a grand day out."
Gerry Bucke, commercial director of headline sponsor Adrian Flux Insurance Services, says the show is an excellent opportunity for the company to meet a key type of customer – enthusiasts with unusual insurance needs. "We’re backing the show because it’s a valuable chance to meet classic vehicle owners and learn from them what they look for in insurance. And if they have any queries we can answer those and can give them quotes – there and then at the show – so they can compare with their existing policies or get instant cover."
