Manitowoc develops the Guardian Slime Inhibitor for clean ice machines

Slime is a leading cause of ice machine breakdowns and this type of biological growth in ice machines is also a health concern. As ice is classed as a food and is subject to strict regulations concerning contamination, operators cannot afford to allow slime to accumulate in their ice machines.

Manitowoc, America’s leading ice machine manufacturer, has developed a patented slime inhibitor for all its S-Series ice machines. Called the Guardian Slime Inhibitor , the system consists of a holder within the machine cabinet into which a special Guardian sachet is inserted. The sachet contains an active ingredient that releases chlorine dioxide on a controlled basis to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi that form slime and cause unpleasant odours in ice machines.

Using Manitowoc’s Guardian system significantly cuts down the number of times an ice machine needs to be cleaned. Many locations find they need to perform a monthly deep cleaning of their ice machine to remove any slime build-up – but the Guardian system extends this period up to every six months. For maximum effectiveness Manitowoc recommends changing the sachet every 30 days.

The Guardian system is designed to be extremely simple to use. All the operator needs to do is to remove the sachet from its outer foil wrapper and place it into the holder in the machine. The system does not affect the ice produced or alter the taste of any drinks served with the ice.

All the S-Series machines have smart stainless steel finishes ensuring they fit in with most modern decors. They are especially suited to busy bars, fast food outlets and restaurants where the demand for high quality ice cubes is at a premium. Outputs vary from 116 kg of ice per 24 hours for the S-300 Series to a massive 903kgs kg per 24 hours for the S-1800 Series and separate modular storage bins can be chosen to suit the site requirements.

The smallest machines in the S-Series have a particularly narrow footprint of 56cm which makes then especially attractive for venues where space is limited. The larger ice machines in the S-Series have remote condensers to eliminate the noise from the refrigeration system for more relaxed front of house operation.

Manitowoc has a huge range of ice machines; they are distributed in the UK by Winterhalter.  They include the EC-Series of spray-production machines, which make premium quality octagonal cubes; the S-Series; the Q-Series of compact and under-counter machines with integral bins, and specialist products such as ice-flaker machines.  Accessories include modular storage bins; ice dispensers; a range of dedicated water filters; and Manitowoc’s patented AuCS automatic cleaning system as well as the Guardian Slime Inhibitor.
