Pity the poor ad salesperson. Having done the job in my salad days, I know what a pig it can be. These desperate times are making ad reps ever more aggressive in their pitches – sadly, it’s not a trait that is likely to win them business. I’m only talking about a minority of the breed, of course. A vociferous minority. Guys, here’s a few handy tips:
· Listen.
· No means no.
· Being good at trapping people on the phone isn’t going to win friends.
· It’s not going to win business, either.
We’ve had a few responses to this one from ad people – but not the ones we were talking about.
Dearest Tim, I shall naturally assume that you are not referring to our earlier conversation of the same date. Whilst undeniably desperate I would hate to think I could ever resort to aggressive behaviour. Persuasive probably, pleading possibly, begging as and when required but aggressive – never :-)
