CST helps start Revolution in foodservice.

Vodka bar chain famous for ’15 minutes or free’ gets aid from WaiterCall

Revolution 15 minute timer Vodka bar chain Revolution has been a phenomenon of the UK bar scene since its founding in 2001. Now with over 50 sites throughout the UK, Revolution offers a growing menu of food service alongside the amazing spirits and cocktails selection for which the chain has became famous.

And restaurant communications specialist Call-Systems Technology has been a key part of the expansion of the Revolution bar chain into food.

"When we first looked at kitchen-to-waiter paging in 2001, food wasn’t a significant part of our turnover", says Godfrey Russell, Revolution’s Development Manager. "It’s grown substantially since then, in all our bars, and perhaps represents up to 15% of our business. And it is still growing",

"When we started doing food in earnest at Revolution, fast contact between kitchen and waiting staff was essential to ensure it was served as soon as possible after plating – not just to keep the food in peak condition but also to deliver fast service – especially at lunchtimes.

"And key to it all was our promise that if food is not served within 15 minutes, the customer won’t have to pay for it."

The solution for Revolution has been to install the WaiterCall kitchen-to-waiter paging system from Call-Systems Technology. WaiterCall allows busy chefs to alert individual serving staff quickly and discreetly when food orders are ready to go – speeding up service and ensuring that customers’ food is delivered to the table quickly and while still piping hot.

"We tested a variety of systems, but nothing came up to WaiterCall" says Godfrey Russell. "It was easy to use, reliable and tough. It gave us no problems at all, unlike other systems we tried. It made our food service very efficient, and it’s been crucial to the smooth running of all our sites."

The heart of WaiterCall is a transmitter, sited in the kitchen, with a column of touch-pad numbers related to individual pagers carried by staff. Alongside each number is space for the waiter’s name, allowing shift changes to be personalised if required. To alert any waiter, Revolution’s chef only needs to push the relevant number on the transmitter, and the relevant pager vibrates discreetly.
