English Chefs Win Gold In Luxembourg with “Great menu, great food, great presentation”

Simon Hulstone, chef owner of The Elephant Restaurant, Torquay, was part of the English National Culinary Team that won Gold at the Culinary World Cup in Luxembourg, November 22-24. Next stop for the Michelin-starred chef is ‘the big one’: he heads Team UK at the Bocuse d’Or in Lyon in January 2011.

The Bocuse d’Or is one of the world’s most prestigious cooking competitions, often referred to as the culinary equivalent of the Olympics. The UK’s Bocuse challenge is supported by CESA, the Catering Equipment Suppliers Association. At the CESA Conference at Celtic Manor, November 11-12, delegates raised over £17,000 at an auction to help fund the Team’s participation – having eaten the same menu that went on to win Gold at Luxembourg.

“It’s great that Simon is getting the winning habit!” says Mick Shaddock, chair of CESA. “The Luxembourg win is a fantastic achievement for the team – though no surprise for those of us lucky enough to have enjoyed the meal at the CESA conference.”

Judges at Luxembourg praised the English chefs’ teamwork, commenting on their “great menu, great food [and] great presentation.”

The Catering Equipment Suppliers Association (CESA) represents over 140 companies who supply, service and maintain all types of commercial catering equipment – from utensils to full kitchen schemes. For more information on CESA visit www.cesa.org.uk

Editor’s notes:

Simon Hulstone is in both Team England, which took part in the Luxembourg World Cup, and Team UK, which will participate in the Bocuse d’Or.
