Bodybuilding Is Not Just The Preserve Of The Incredible Bulk

CNP Professional supports natural bodybuilder Marina Cornwall

***Stop Press***

Marina is due to appear on This Morning, ITV1, Thursday 15th October, 10.30 – 12.30

Marina Cornwall Contrary to popular belief, big is not always best in bodybuilding – and Marina Cornwall can attest to this. Weighing in for competitions at just under 7 stone and only 5ft tall, Marina has some notable titles under her pint-sized belt. The latest being 5th in the Pro WNBF World Natural Bodybuilding Championships!

Marina is a relatively recent convert to bodybuilding qualifying for the British women’s finals of ANB (Amateur Natural Bodybuilding Championships) in 2001. Previously she had been an avid competitor in UltraFit competitons and came very close to qualifying as one of the Gladiators for the first TV series in the 1990s.

"I trained really hard to become a Gladiator against 3000 contenders and I made it to the final 200," says Marina. "I remember being really scared when I turned up for the time trials, the girls were just massive compared to me. I wanted to run away. But I made it through the time trials, the monkey bars and the rope climb. Although these girls were big they were not so fast on their feet or as agile. But when it came to the pugel sticks I didn’t make it through – I was told I wasn’t aggressive enough!"

Because Marina was such a fitness enthusiast, bodybuilding seemed a natural progression. In 2005 she turned Pro and now competes in the Pro WNBF (World Natural Bodybuilding Federation) events in America which is both drug tested and polygraphed. She’s based at Fitness First, Southampton, Hampshire. Marina uses CNP Professional supplements to help build muscle and strength as well as promote general fitness and health.

Kerry Kayes, founder of CNP and himself a former British champion bodybuilder, advised Marina on the best way to build up muscles on her petite frame.

"It’s unusual to see someone of Marina’s size competing on the Pro circuit so I was keen to help her," says Kerry. "Building up muscles on a small frame needs special care. It’s a balancing act between dropping body fat without dropping weight."

Marina’s training routine consists of 30 – 40 minutes of cardio exercise per day and about 40 minutes of weight training. When a competition is coming up she starts dieting about 12 weeks before. Her regime consists of 6-7 meals per day consisting of lean chicken and turkey, tuna, brown rice, fish and plenty of green vegetables.

To supplement this Marina uses two protein shakes per day and four off season. These ensure she gets adequate valuable protein and nutrients to help build muscle. For general health she takes Pro Vital and to prevent injury Pro Recover and Pro Tect.

"Pro Vital is an excellent product. It’s so important when dieting to get the correct amount of essential vitamins and minerals. Since I’ve been using it I’ve not had any colds. I take it all year round and the new formulation is so simple to take."

Other products used by Marina include Pro Peptide, Pro Glutamine, Pro Slam, Pro HMB, Pro CLA, Pro BCAA, Pro Lipid, Pro Creatine and Pro Bar XS (off-season).

Marina is a busy person – she has to fit in being a fitness and personal trainer between her training sessions.

“Often I have clients back-to-back at the gym, with no time to eat in between. But it’s easy to mix up a shake and drink it as and when. That way I know I’m getting emergency fuel with good nutritional value. I recommend the shakes and bars to all my clients. They’re so much better for you than grabbing a sandwich and a packet of crisps at the garage."

Marina’s next challenge is the Pro WNBF Championships in New York on 14th November and Kerry has helped sponsor the trip.

"I wouldn’t be able to get there without his help," says Marina. "Thank you Kerry!"
