Tackling the long bar

True beer dispensers increase serving versatility at Glasgow Warriors’ new home ground

A True TDD-2 beer dispenser at The Scotstoun Stadium increases optionsRecently the Glasgow Warriors Rugby Union club moved from its old ground at Firhill Stadium to the bigger Scotstoun Stadium, located at the west end of Glasgow. The Scotstoun Stadium first opened its doors to the public in 1915 and is set to be a training venue for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014.

The bar at Scotstoun has been refurbished, not only to cope with the anticipated increased trade, but also to offer improved facilities as a corporate event venue for conferences and other business meetings. Unusually, the bar itself is 8m long, which can cause problems during serving, so to add flexibility in design Quality Equipment Distributers (QED) installed a True TDD-2 direct draw beer dispenser part way along its length.

“We specified the True beer dispenser as it can easily be moved to the end of the bar leaving a gap in the middle, splitting the bar in two. This increases versatility,” explains Robert Campbell of QED. “The other great advantage of the unit is that the two dispensing fonts and the front panel can easily be re-branded, depending on which brewery is sponsoring a particular match.”

The free-standing draught beer dispenser can be supplied as a static unit or with castors. It stands up to tough stadium use with heavy duty, wear resistant laminated black vinyl front and sides and all stainless steel counter top.

“Setting up was simple,” says Robert Campbell. “The unit was delivered on site, popped into place and that was that. It’s great.”

The beer is held in the TDD-2’s refrigerated storage compartment at a constant 0.5 to 3.3°C and is dispensed through two 77mm diameter stainless steel insulated beer columns. Cold air is directed into these columns whilst the beer is being served to reduce foaming.

“The TDD-2 is really easy to maintain,” says Robert Campbell. “All the bar staff have to do is clean out the pipes regularly, as they would do with any beer pumps, and wipe the top counter when necessary.”

One reason for the Warriors’ move was to increase the use of the Scotstoun stadium. So far the True TDD-2 is doing its job of keeping the beer flowing as the visitors and fans pour in.

“We are delighted with our new vibrant bar facility,” says Ian Boardley of Encore Hospitality Services, who hold the catering contract at Scotstoun Stadium.
