All that jazz at Hoveton Hall

Gary Winter and the Simon Brown Quintet Saturday 30th June at Hoveton Hall Gardens

On Saturday 30th June, Gary Winter is back at Hoveton Hall Gardens by popular demand, following a roof-topping sell out performance last year.

Hoveton Gardens and Hall provide the perfect backdrop for a chilled-out musical summer evening, with the concert taking place on the veranda of the Hall. Bring a picnic, drink, something to sit on and sit back to enjoy four hours of pure entertainment in the magnificent Gardens and grounds. There is also a dance floor, proven to be very popular in previous years, for those who can’t resist moving to the music.

Gary will be accompanied by the Simon Brown Quintet. Featuring local musicians, Simon Brown, a jazz pianist, Jasper Smith on guitar, Clive Hitchcock on sax, Alex Best on drums and Dave Olney on bass. The music starts at 6.30pm with live chilled-out classics.  Gary and the band will have support from guest vocalist Samantha Larkin plus special guests.

Performing well-loved tunes from Rat Pack style swing to more contemporary pieces, Gary Winter has been described as ‘Britain’s Michael Buble’, and is sure to put on an entertaining show. His music ranges from ballads to upbeat dance tunes, from jazz and swing to modern, so there is bound to be something for everyone at this party in the park.

Tickets for the event are available to buy in advance from Hoveton Hall Gardens’ online shop for £15. Some tickets will be available on the night at £20 each. The gates open at 5.30pm, the show lasts until approximately 10.30pm. Access for the event will be from the main front drive to the Hall from the A1151.

Hoveton Hall Gardens is one of Norfolk’s best kept secrets.  It offers a rare mixture of experiences for gardeners, walkers and families – on the one hand there are the woodlands, the water garden, with its natural tunnels, bridges, nooks and crannies, and the park.  On the other are the walled garden, with its unique spider gate, the kitchen garden, the 18th century ice well and the early 19th century glass house.  There are also adventure trails and activities for children.

Hoveton Hall Gardens is situated at the edge of the Norfolk Broads, just north of Wroxham.  Follow brown and white tourist signs off the A1151. For more information visit www.hovetonhallgardens.co.uk or call 01603 782558 or 07825 517647.

About Hoveton Hall: Set at the edge of the Norfolk Broads, Hoveton Hall Gardens is a delightful mix of formal and informal planting across the seasons.  The Hall itself (which is not open to the public), was built between 1809 and 1812 is attributed to Humphry Repton.  The walled Kitchen Garden and layout of the ‘Spider Garden’ are shown on maps as early as 1841. Extensive work to the Water Gardens was carried out in the 1920s, by Geoffrey Buxton, and much of the collection of rhododendrons and azaleas was planted under his direction by Waterers Nurseries.  The gardens are home to an 18th century ice well and an early 19th century glass house – one of only three of its type in the country.  The Arboretum has over 200 specimen trees and the Kidney Lake attracts kingfishers and grey herons.
