Tour of Britain: no blinking at Blickling

A couple of us keen bikers checked out the Tour of Britain as the cyclists’ route ran within a couple of miles of the office, in front of Blickling Hall (National Trust, very nice).  It was great fun, even in the grey, but if you’ve never watched a cycle tour here’s the SP: first, you get there and wait on the side of the road for about an hour.   Then loads of police on motorbikes come past, waving and grinning and playing with their sirens.  Then you wait some more.  Then the breakaway comes past.  Blinked?  You missed it.

Then you wait and wait and then the peleton comes past.  Again, it’s important to pay attention as you don’t get a second look.  Actually you don’t get a second, full stop.  Then loads of cars with bikes on top go past.  Then you go home.Tour of Britain 2010_0100

And yes, we’d do it again.

Best bit? The motor bikers  having the times of their lives.

  1. Nice shot chaps and sorry that I wasn’t there Blinking in Blicking too.

Was proudly watching the highlights on ITV4, following the Norfolk leg. Has been a great tour both from a cycling and organisational perspective….bet it has also helped put Norfolk firmly on the map from a tourism perspective too.

Are you lot doing the Norfolk 100 next year?

  2. Well I won’t unless I get a road bike by then… I bet Toni will though, as she’s a biking fanatic, and Fiona, if they allow electric bikes (and if there are a few power poitns en route). Are you?
