RAF Marham boosts charity coffers with help from Adrian Flux

Flux presents cheque to RAF Marham Local charities are £2,500 richer after charity fundraisers from RAF Marham received a cheque from Norfolk-based Adrian Flux Insurance Services at the company’s East Winch HQ on Thursday.

The money, presented to Corporal George Denman and Flight Lieutenant Pete Norman by Adrian Flux’s Charlotte Roughton, was sponsorship for the charity Track Weekend on October 11-12th at the Norfolk air base. At the event motor enthusiasts got the chance to drive their own cars safely to the limit, on runways which usually host the awesome power of RAF Tornadoes.

Adrian Flux helped the base raise a whopping £15,000 from the event, bringing this year’s total to over £40,000. This is the third year of Marham Track Weekends, and Cpl Denman and Flt Lt Norman reckon that with the interest in this event they’ll easily beat that figure for charity at the next event, in April 2009.
"Getting Flux as a Track Day sponsor made a big difference," explains Cpl Denman. "It helped cover the cost of running the event so that every penny we raise can go into Marham’s charity fund. But also Flux is a specialist in insurance for the drivers who come to track days, so there’s a pool of expertise to draw on. Plus, of course, they are local to us."

The money will be distributed to various charities, including the RAF Benevolent Fund, First Response – the charity, which provides volunteer support to local NHS ambulance services – and a host of other local charities.

RAF Marham can host up to 320 cars in a weekend and entry to the ‘Track’ is restricted to members of car owners clubs, which RAF Marham contacts via online forums. As Marham is a working airbase, entries are closed one month before the event and all entrants have to be security screened. The first of next year’s events will be held in April 2009.
