Hubbard launches space-saving, high volume Scotsman icemaker

NW308 fits industry-standard global footprint and is easy to look after

Hubbard Systems’ new Scotsman icemaker is a modular cuber that’s designed to fit in the global 560mm / 22inch footprint.  The NW308 is the latest in the NW Series and makes the classic six-sided 12g dice ice cube.  It can also be supplied to make the 6g half-dice ice cube.  Its space-saving footprint is highlighted by the fact that it vents from the top – so it can be built in to tight gaps, with no need for side clearance.

Want to know about types of ice? Ask an Inuit or a Scotsman

Gourmet ice cubes, dice, superdice, cubelet, nugget, flake, superflake and scale: but which ice is best?  Hubbard Systems offers ice adv-ice.

Some of the Scotsman ice varieties covered in Hubbard Systems' Guide to IceApparently the Inuit really do have fifty or more words for snow.  They’ll know there are lots of different types of ice as well – yet some foodservice operators think ice is ice.  They’re wrong.   For a start, there’s the very obvious difference between ice cubes and flake ice.  But different cubes have different characteristics, too.  Some are softer, some harder, some clearer and so on.

Hubbard Ice Systems, which markets Scotsman ice machines in the UK, reckons it’s time the market woke up and smelt the coffee.  Or, in this case, the ice.  The company has produced an update to its popular Guide to Ice, which is available to download from scotsman-ice.co.uk.

Ice cool under pressure: Mum’s the word for Hubbard/Scotsman rally driver

Rallying is a family affair for Hubbard business manager

Fell Motorsports in actionWhen he’s not busy providing excellent customer support in his role as Business Development Manager for Northern England and Scotland at Hubbard Systems, George Fell can often be found going for a drive with his mum, Lois. But these aren’t your run of the mill day trips to the seaside we’re talking about, because George is competing in the Scottish Tarmack Rally Championship and his mum is his co-driver.

The pair started racing together after Lois Fell recovered not only from three hip operations in ten years but also from breast cancer. “We made a promise, as a family, that once she recovered she could go rallying,” says George. “She’s now been in remission for three years and there’s no stopping her!”

Ginspirational ice

The ice experts at Hubbard know how to make a good G&T exceptional: gourmet gin needs gourmet ice

Gin and tonicThe popularity of gin has exploded in recent years, with hundreds of new brands helping to cast off its fusty image with a variety of new flavours. The number of distilleries in the UK has nearly doubled since 2010, from 116 to 184, with sales in the UK topping £1 billion in 2015.

For a seemingly simple drink, there is much debate about the best way to make the perfect gin and tonic. Most agree that it involves a balance of four elements: the gin itself, tonic, the garnish and, naturally, ice.

Nugget ice: the smoothie operator

Hubbard Systems says nugget ice is the new ‘best in class’ for smoothies and blended drinks

Smoothie plus Scotsman nugget iceWhen it comes to smoothies, ice is an essential.  According to Hubbard Systems, who distributes the Scotsman range of icemakers, there’s a new ‘best in class’ ice for smoothie-making: nugget ice.

There’s a variety of reasons for the nugget’s crown.  In terms of the ice itself, it’s small and relatively soft so it blends very easily and quietly, plus it’s kinder to blades – so it’s perfect for smoothies and other blended drinks.  Because of the way it’s made, by compressing flake ice, it is very cold and has little residual water, so its chilling power is highly effective, too.

Hubbard believes it is the first ice machine supplier to be 100% BIM-compliant

BIM model of Scotsman icemakerHubbard Systems has made Revit BIM files available for all Scotsman’s ice machines and accessories. The company believes it is the only icemaker supplier to be 100% BIM compliant.

“We know how important it is for designers, consultants and specifiers to have the right tools for the job,” says Simon Aspin, commercial director of Hubbard Systems. “Operators are increasingly looking for specialist ice equipment, to make specific types of ice – be that nugget, gourmet cube, dice, flake or whatever. So it’s vital that anyone putting together a BIM-based project can put in the right equipment models. That’s why we’ve taken the step to produce files for the entire Scotsman range.

“We believe Scotsman is the only brand of ice machine to have all its models available in BIM format.”
