‘Friday thing’ – definition a treat or ritual performed in the office or workplace every Friday.

Here at TPW HQ we’ve been made aware of different office-based ‘Friday things’, whether it be dress down days, jokes or treats. Today we’ve heard of people having sausage rolls in the office “because it’s Friday”, sending colleagues out on the cake run and “chocolate cake Friday”.

We now feel we want to jump on the bandwagon and have a ‘Friday thing’, but what should ours be? Suggestions please….

I’ve also stumbled across some Friday humour, like these amusing pie-charts and some office jokes and dares – safely filed away in case required at a later date!

Ho Ho Hic! A very merry and charitable TPW Christmas works outing was had by all

The Publicity Works Christmas ‘do’ was a very merry affair, plenty of good food, good company and copious amounts of good wine! We had made a pact not to mention work throughout the evening and if anyone did, they should contribute one pound to a charity.

At the end of the evening we had amassed £20 for our chosen good cause - medical equipment for a hospital in Dar es Salaam. The equipment will be purchased and taken out to Tanzania later in the year by a student nurse, daughter of one of us, who is working there as part of her training.

Roll on to our Summer excursion!

The menu is great at Norfolk's newest eatery, the Gunton Arms, and so is the artwork.

There’s a new eatery that’s opened up locally and it’s got everyone talking. The Gunton Arms is at the end of a wooded drive on the Gunton Hall estate. It’s old and it’s delightful.

Now it’s had a shed load of money lavished on it. The cooking is wonderful – especially if you’re a grill fan, as the steaks and suchlike are done over a massive open fire in the restaurant. The chef, Stuart Tattersall, is ex head chef at Mark Hix and uses local ingredients including venison from the surrounding deer park.

But it’s not just the cooking that people are discussing, it’s also the eccentric and expensive decor – the Tracey Emins behind the bar, the slightly dodgy erotica in the gents, the stuffed crows, the mating dinosaurs, the anatomical models.

And while there’re as many complaints (about the artworks) as there are compliments, one thing’s for sure: they were worth every penny, because everyone but everyone round here is talking about the place, the artwork and the food – and we’re all going to have a look. Which just goes to show the marketing power of rude-with-food.

If you’re too far away for a quick visit, think about booking a room (they have eight). I recommend the mixed grill, by the way.

It’s Thanksgiving in America which means that thousands of turkeys will be killed, plucked and roasted for the table. But some lucky birds escape.

According to the Washington Post President Obama has pardoned Liberty and Peace on Wednesday, the fifth and sixth turkeys to survive the Thanksgiving feast during his time as President.

Strange as it may seem, the turkey pardoning is an annual ritual during which the President shows his power to choose over life and death.

It may have been Abraham Lincoln who pardoned the first turkey way back when…..or it may not!

Either way, nowadays, the lucky turkeys get to live out their days at Mount Vernon - the plantation home of the first President of the United States, George Washington.
