KP of the Year 2018: still time to enter – if you’re quick

Deadline for entries is August 3 for prize pot of over £10,000

Entries have been pouring in for the 2018 KP of the Year awards – it’s not just about the honour of winning, it’s also the attraction of this year’s prize pot, which is worth over £10,000.  The deadline to nominate a KP is August 3, so anyone still thinking about entering should move sharp.

“This year we’ve had entries from all sorts of different sectors of the market,” says Stephen Kinkead, managing director of Winterhalter, the company behind the competition.  “We truly welcome that – this is about celebrating the huge contribution KPs make to the foodservice industry, so we want entries from hotels, pubs, schools, hospitals – if you’ve got a great kitchen porter, then please nominate them!”

The prize pot includes £1,000 for the winning KP, plus a Winterhalter warewasher for the winner’s kitchen or bar.  The KP of the Year also gets to celebrate their award with a slap-up dinner or party for family and friends.  There are also cash prizes for two runners up.

Michael Caines MBE is one of the high profile chefs who has backed the competition.  “The KP has been and always will be a key part of the kitchen,” he says. “They are unsung heroes, working hard and in difficult conditions to keep the flow of the kitchen going. We’re very, very pleased that we’ve got a Kitchen Porter of the Year competition. It’s a wonderful initiative.”
