CESA announces honours for 25 top foodservice industry ‘movers and shakers’

five foodservice professionals who have all made major contributions to the industry.  The recipients of CESA Foodservice Order of Merit will be announced at a special industry breakfast at ExCeL on Monday 27th February “These are people who have helped advance the hospitality market and who have often given their time freely.  At CESA we feel it’s time the industry recognised them,” says Mick Shaddock, chair of CESA.  “We have been developing the Order of Merit concept for over 12 months and we look forward to announcing them at the Show.  Being the UK’s most important catering exhibition, Hotelympia is the obvious place to hold the ceremony. 

“The recipients of the awards are drawn from across the industry – operators and suppliers,
caterers and manufacturers – but all of them, crucially, movers and shakers.”

The names of the first Foodservice Order of Merit recipients will be revealed at the Show.

Energy: ‘Mind the Gap’ research could help shape Brussels legislation

Do you have a sustainability programme?  What’s more important in a piece of equipment, function or eco-friendliness?  How far are you willing to go to reduce your carbon footprint?  CESA is currently conducting industry-wide research into attitudes towards sustainability and energy saving and plans to unveil the first findings at Hotelympia.

Called ‘Mind the Gap’, the project will focus on the differences in approach to sustainability in distinct parts of the supply chain – manufacturers, distributors and consultants.  Ultimately
the research will also look at end-user attitudes, too.

“CESA is working with European legislators to develop the measures that will be implemented under the Energy Using Products Directive, covering cooking, dishwashing and refrigeration equipment,” says Mick Shaddock.  “We want to hear from professionals in every sector of the industry – the ‘Mind the Gap’ research project is a real opportunity for the supply chain to indentify its performance and benchmark activity in terms of energy saving and sustainability.  The research will not only benefit companies, it will also assist and influence CESA’s
representations to, and work with, UK and EU governments.  It could have a direct bearing on future legislation and regulations.”

CFSP: 160 and counting

The latest graduates of the CFSP training scheme will be awarded their accreditations at a special event during Hotelympia.

CFSP is the specialist qualification developed by CESA and accredited by the University of West London.  Its objective is to raise the levels of professionalism throughout the foodservice sector, by giving both catering operators and suppliers a better understanding of their industry.

The latest group of CFSP graduates brings the total to 160 and there are four new CFSP programmes running in 2012.  Details will be available from stand S1235.
