New British catering equipment manufacturer Fortius aims to offer British caterers exactly what they want: quality-built, reliable and efficient cooking equipment at down-to-earth prices. The new company, whose factory is in Derbyshire, is now manufacturing a wide range including fryers, griddles, ovens, salamanders and hobs.

Fortius is owned by Foodservice Equipment Marketing (FEM), the catering equipment specialist based in East Kilbride. "Since 1993 FEM has represented top foodservice brands such as Cambro, Vollrath and Hamilton Beach," says FEM marketing manager Mark Hogan. "We’ve applied that wealth of expertise and market knowledge to the development of the new Fortius range.

"The result is a British brand, designed specifically for British caterers."

For example, the Fortius range of fryers is specified to meet the demands of the British catering market: it’s easy to use, easy to clean, flexible, offers superior frying quality and exceptional value. The range features a choice of mid-budget tabletop single- and twin-tank fryers, with production capacities ranging from 7 to 33kg of chips per hour. Fortius also manufactures accessories, including stands, as well as chip scuttles designed to keep chips in top condition, hot and ready to serve.

Two of the areas that set the Fortius fryer’s design apart in the mid-budget sector are oil capacity and basket size. The capacity and design of the oil tank means that food is completely immersed in oil during frying, so it cooks properly and thoroughly. Meanwhile the baskets are larger than many competitors’, which ensures that food has more room and can spread out, so it cooks evenly – which means no more soggy chips!
