British manufacturer Precision goes for environmentally friendly refrigeration.

Precision fridges use Envirofoam insulation. Precision‘s British-built refrigeration units not only incorporate energy-saving features in their design but are also manufactured using energy-saving methods. Precision is concerned with the impact of business on the environment and is constantly looking to deliver genuinely ‘greener’ refrigeration, with no extra cost implications.

Precision is the first commercial refrigeration manufacturer to use Envirofoam, a new foam insulation based around vegetable oils rather than petrochemicals. Envirofoam has been hailed as a major advance in environment-friendly solutions because it is based on renewable resources and actually requires less energy to produce than conventional polyurethane foams.   The new foam’s insulating properties and strength equal conventional foam.

All Precision cabinets, including fridges, freezers, prep counters and backbar coolers, are made using Envirofoam R2007. This foam’s polyol component contains more than 70% of vegetable-derived material and its blowing agent falls within the “less than 5” category for global warming. Furthermore, the foam blowing agents have no adverse effect on the earth’s ozone layer.

For caterers wanting to minimise running costs, Precision recommends specifying cabinets with drawers rather than doors. Precision sees drawers as a definite trend in the catering market. They make it easier to store different foods separately and they bring big savings in energy use, because less cold air is lost accessing a drawer than when opening and closing a cabinet’s door.
